Effective Building & Consultancy is a building consultancy business based in Sydney Australia that provides local clients with consultation services. We assist our clients with pre-purchase building inspections, dilapidation inspections, structural engineering reports and insurance reports. Effective Building & Consultancy offers a variety of different services to the building industry and insurance industry. 

We currently have staff with a diverse range of qualifications including engineers, licenced builders, building consultants, building surveyors and quantity surveyors.

About the role:

As a building consultant, you will be responsible for writing reports on building related matters, assist with forensic investigations, provide detailed scope of works and cost estimates, obtain and review tenders.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Assist with report writing involving the pre-purchase of residential and commercial buildings using our in-house inspection software.

  • Compile reports involving all types of structures and construction problems including residential, commercial and industrial properties.

  • Conduct unbiased investigations for various types of clients.

  • Prepare written reports that documents causes of failure, extent of loss, and recommended remediation scope of works.

  • Maintain professional and techincal knowledge through remote learning and reviewing professional publications.

About You:

You will be working as one with our high performing and dedicated team of Insurers and intermediaries, clients' lawyers, loss adjusters, builders and contractors, bringing with you an entrepreneurial spirit, down to earth and respectful attitude, time and caseload management skills. As you will be working remotely, you are expected to have access to internet, a computer and phone for communication, including printing services.


Experience/Knowledge Required:

  • A certified structural engineer or licenced builder 

  • Minimum 2 years experience in a similar role

  • Thorough knowledge of the building industry

  • Experience working with legal firms and insurance companies is preferred

  • Have good English communication skills both written and verbal

  • Ability to communicate with staff in plain English

  • Ability to work as an individual

Technical skills required

  • Ability to write building defects and damage reports based upon notes provided

  • Ability to provide a scope of repairs to commercial, domestic and industrial properties

  • IT Competent

  • Complex report writing

Key roles and responsibilities:

  • Pre-purchase building inspection report writing

  • Dilapidation inspection report writing

  • General administration and project management assistance

  • Availability between 8.30am to 5pm Sydney time Monday - Friday


Salary is negotiable and is dependant on experience and skills and will be paid fortnightly.
